Record Keeping

Why get me to do your record keeping?

Good record keeping is the backbone of any business, but it can be time-consuming and overwhelming.

I will:

•   Record every penny that comes in and goes out — sales, bills, wages, bank payments, etc.

•   Organize receipts and invoices so nothing gets lost.

•   Check the bank account against the records (this is called reconciliation) to make sure everything matches.

•   Prepare reports that show how much money the business is making, what it owes, and what it owns.

•   Keeping everything organised and up to date
•   Making sure nothing is missed (invoices, receipts, expenses)
•   Reconciling your bank so the numbers always add up
•   Giving you accurate figures to see how your business is doing
•   Preparing the groundwork for tax returns, VAT, and accounts

In short: A bookkeeper keeps your records tidy so you can focus on running your business — not chasing paperwork.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD IT)

Why ask me to help with Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax is a major change to how self-employed individuals and landlords report their income to HMRC. Instead of one tax return per year, you’ll now need to keep digital records and submit updates to HMRC every quarter, followed by a final year-end declaration. For many people, this feels like a big and confusing shift — with more deadlines, new software, and stricter rules. That’s where I can help — making the whole process simple, manageable, and stress-free.

When you work with me, I will:

  • Set you up for MTD using HMRC-approved software such as FreeAgent or Xero

  • Ensure your records meet HMRC’s digital requirements

  • Keep your income and expenses organised throughout the year

  • Submit your quarterly updates to HMRC accurately and on time

  • Monitor your tax position so there are no surprises

  • Prepare your final end-of-year declaration

  • Make sure all allowable expenses are claimed so you don’t overpay tax

  • Keep you informed of all deadlines so you avoid penalties

  • Provide ongoing support so you always know where you stand

What this means for you:

No more last-minute rush at year end.

Better visibility of your tax throughout the yearPeace of mind that everything is compliant

More time to focus on your business (or life!)

MTD doesn’t need to be stressful. With the right support, it can actually make managing your finances easier. Let me take care of the details so you can stay focused on what you do best.

Who MTD applies to:

Self-employed individuals and Landlords. Anyone with combined business and/or property income over £50,000 (from April 2026)

Over £30,000 (from April 2027)

VAT Return

Why ask me to do your VAT return?

This is quite a complicated technical exercise that requires forensic knowledge of every aspect of a business. This must be  presented to HMRC in a digital format, only available from certified software. It is possible to do it yourself, but it would probably take you quite a long time and if mistakes are made, these can be punished harshly.

I will:

•    Make sure you’re paying the right amount of tax – not too much, not too little

•    Ensure you never miss a VAT deadline, which can lead to penalties and interest charges.

•    Record all your sales and purchases with the correct VAT rates.

•    Separate the VAT you’ve charged customers from the VAT you’ve paid on expenses.

•    Calculate the difference – if you owe HMRC or if HMRC owes you.

•    Prepare and submit the VAT return online through HMRC (usually every 3 months).

Self Assessment

Why ask me to do your Self-Assessment tax return?

Completing a Self-Assessment tax return can be stressful, time-consuming, and confusing — especially when HMRC expects everything to be accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
Even small mistakes can lead to penalties, interest, or unnecessary tax being paid.

Although it is possible to do it yourself, many people find it complicated and worry about whether they’ve included everything correctly. That’s where I can help.

I will:

•     Make sure you’re paying the right amount of tax – not too much, not too little.
•     Check all your income sources such as self-employment, employment, rental, dividends, pensions, benefits, and interest.
•     Ensure all allowable business and personal expenses are included so you never pay more than you need to.
•     Calculate your tax accurately, based on the latest HMRC rules and thresholds.
•     Complete all required Self-Assessment forms (including supplementary pages where needed).
•     Prepare and submit your tax return to HMRC online, safely and securely.
•     Remind you of key HMRC deadlines so you don’t risk penalties or late-filing charges.
•     Explain your tax bill clearly, including what you owe and when it must be paid.
•     Offer support and advice to help you plan your tax more effectively for future years.
